Common York Rooftop Unit Problems

York rooftop units are everywhere on older GTA plazas and industrial buildings, especially in Scarborough, Brampton and Mississauga. Many of the York Sunline units we see were installed in the 1990s and 2000s and are now at or past end of life: rusted base rails, crumbling coil fins, repeat compressor failures and refrigerant that is no longer made.

Newer York Predator and York Sun Choice units bring their own calls: controls faults, sensors, economizer issues and the usual capacitors and contactors. We read the control board diagnostics first, then work through electrical, refrigerant and airflow.

The legacy workhorse. Many are candidates for phased replacement. When a Sunline needs a second compressor or has an R-22 leak, the written comparison usually favours replacement.

Should I replace my old York Sunline units?

Many Sunline units on GTA roofs are past 15-20 years. If they need major repairs or run on R-22, replacement usually makes sense. We write up repair and replacement costs side by side.

Will a new York unit fit my old York curb?

Often not exactly. We fabricate a curb adapter in-house so the new unit fits the existing opening without new roof work.

What does a York rooftop unit cost installed?
